bisque question

Hello Amanda,

yeah, I fire by eye sometimes so ill tell you the simple way and the simple
reason that i bisque
first the reason ,

the'reason' that we (I) bisque things is so that clay objects can be
subjected to contact with water without turning back into mud or plastic
clay..............so if your not going to glaze something or your glaze is
of low moisture content ,there really no need to bisque, you just fire the
things once and to the final temprature ................... but it also
makes it alot easier and safer to handle move and store things until you get
around to decorating them.

then the way,

the 'way' we know a bisque withtout any cones or pyrometers is by
sight.........if a clay object is
emitting its own (orange-red) light(about 1100f) when seperated from the
heat source, it is then 'bisqued' ,meaning that you can get it wet and it
wont turn back into mud..

hope that helps
DG LA

I made some sugar /creamer sets in trays that have slab bottoms. Should =
I fire the sugar pot and pitcher on the slab tray to help keep it flat? =
Or will that probably crack it? I am using Standard cone 6 porcelain =
#551.=20

Thanks so much!
