dolomite substitution

Can I substitute eqal amounts of calcium carbonate and magnesium carbonate for
dolomite? I want to test a cone 06-04 glaze that calls for 8% dolomite, and can't find
any in my studio (afraid I discarded it long ago in a fit of cleaning madness).

Hi Dianna,

Probably too late with this but -

Now this all depends on - if your dolomite is the same as mine - it is one
of the materials we use that can vary quite a bit from mine to mine.

In order to get the same mols of each you will need more like 57 whiting
and 43 Mag carb - I think - this gets even trickerier because there is
light and heavy mag carb.

It is not a good thing to do if there is a lot of dolomite in the glaze -
like over 10% - magnesium carb (light) promots crawling due to it's high
rate of shrinkage during sintering.
