clay art as a "waist" of time?

Concerning Ron Roy's comment about teachers seldom taking
workshops:

Here are my "credentials" as a pottery teacher: averaging 24
students per quarter times 4 quarters per year, minus 20% for
returning students, times 16 years...

I figure I've influenced about 1200 students minimum,
mostly teaching throwing, and I'm told I'm a good teacher. I
still really enjoy teaching. Yes, I attend workshops when they're
not too expensive, and are close to home...
Have any of the places I've taught ever offered to PAY for a
workshop or to send me to NCECA? _ _ _ _ NO!
(and don't even ask if I've been covered by L & I or had
benefits...too "part-time")

You gotta do it for the love, honey!

Hi Pat,

I tried not to slander those who do Pat - They deserve our respect and
encouragement. I think it should be part of the job description - spend a
week of each year upgrading your understanding - so your students will get
more understanding - so they can come up with their own solutions to the
problems potters face every day.

I know - thats not how our educational system is supposed to work - but
that does not mean we have to accept it that way.
