Sincultura, what is the model number of your kiln? That information is on
the electrical data plate riveted to the switch box.

The Paragon website includes all the Duncan manuals, which you can download
at no charge:

http://www.paragonweb.com/catalog.cfm?type=manuals

Please be patient. The downloads take awhile if you have a dialup
connection. They are in Adobe Acrobat format.

It is wise that you do not fire the kiln while you are asleep. If the kiln
overfires, it will not burn your house down, because the heat is contained
inside the kiln. But your kiln will be damaged, sometimes beyond repair,
depending on the power available to the kiln. (Some of the china painting
kilns don't get hot enough to overfire.) During an overfire, the elements
eventually burn themselves out, thus shutting off the kiln.

Sincerely,

> Hi! This is my first post here. I'm a newbie potter from Puerto Rico, only
been working with clay for three months . I took my last savings and bought
a used Duncan Teacher Pro at a store. This is the second time I use it. Both
times I've seen some fire sparkles on the kiln sitter during the first par
of the firing when the elements are turned on and of periodically. Is that
normal? Also there is one of the elements that turns bright red a lot more
than the others. The others take a lot longer and turn to a duller red at
high temps. The guy at the store said that that's because it new. Am I going
to have to change the rest of the elements soon? I'm kind of scared of
kilns. Are there any articles online I can read so I feel better about using
them? I have this irrational fear it might set that house on fire! The guy
at the store told me to just start it before I go to sleep and I just can't
go to sleep while that thing is on.. > Sincultura
