I just wanted to say a couple things after this somewhat spirited discussion
about clay mixers. Which I thoroughly enjoyed.

Some people wrote emails to me saying I was rude etc. I think sometimes
people find it hard to believe or understand that many of try as much to be
"who" we really are on Clay Art; even though it is at times rather futile
through words.

A very important point I'm trying to make here is that people today seem to
get being "passionate" confused with being "rude", "arrogant", etc. Then
these people themselves get "passionate" defending what they feel is a moral
center that needs to be protected, and so immerse themselves in a redundant
self referential moral dilemma.

I'm here to proudly exclaim that political correctness is bullshit. This
world that seeks to divide us with language and protocol is tiresome. All of
us - including me need to take some time once in awhile and breath deeply
and marvel at the joy and the wonder of the world we live in. Hug your kid,
rassel with your dog, phone an old friend you haven't talked to in 20 years.

Be passionate, loving and forgiving. That is all we have in the world. Don't
ever ride on someone for being passionate about something- even if they are
wrong. If they are wrong attack the argument and attack it with every drop
of intellectual prowess that you possess. Don't attack the person - that's
just dirty and hurtful.

Good discussion is powerful and even though many of you thought my position
on the Soldner mixer thing was completely untenable - well your right - come
on laugh. But I learned much from Vince and many others that had opposing
views on the subject.

Sometimes getting passionate about something will get people to let down
their guard.

You know in my post to Vince were I wrote, "We call that Paint up here in
Canada" in response to Vince's comment about "industrial finish" I said that
with a chuckle knowing I was goading him a bit. But you know I did it with a
smile of loving and enjoying myself and not winning or beating.

I would have enjoyed saying that snarky little comment with a smile, over a
beer even more than I did in the email.

So anyway I just wanted to say, after eight years of being on Clay Art I
still love it as much as the day I discovered it. I hope it always is a
place of free discussion among potters/artists. That we all use it to know
that we all share the same joys, sorrows, triumphs and setbacks. That's what
it's all about.

I'm just trying to make the point - if you need to attack- attack peoples
arguments not the people themselves. That's sound advice - from a hoser in
Canada.

Everything is possible,
Rod
