packing the studio up

I am looking for tips on packing up my studio for a year. I am attending
teachers college 2 days per week as well as working full time and raising 3
kids (one of which is my husband - hee hee).
I have decided I cannot pot as well - I simply will not have time. =(
I have several buckets of mixed wet glaze, lots of dry chemicals, tools,
wheel, kiln - you know what it's like.
If you were going to pack up your studio - which for me is located in part
of the garage - what would YOU do? How would you do it?
My concern is the glazes and them drying out so that they are useless. I
don't want to just dump them all. I figured on buying some rubbermaid tubs
for all the chemicals still in bags. What about the clay? Is it all okay
just packed in bags (obviously the bags shouldn't have holes).
What about cleaning everything? A good old fashioned spring - or in this
case fall - clean up, washing everything to within an inch of it's life!
Any ideas would be more then accepted - you can also offer to help if you
feel so inclined! I live in London Ontario and have a hot tub you can soak
in after all the heaving, washing and packing!!!
Thanks in advance,
Penni

Do not meddle in the affairs of dragons, because you are crunchy and
taste good with ketchup.

Huh! Just for a year? My studio has been sitting, basically unused, out in
the garage for at LEAST that long. School has been busy, I work part time
at the art center and most of my throwing this year has been at school or at
the art center. Homemade or mixed glazes won't get ruined drying out (if
they do dry out. There might be a little work involved in reconstituting
them, but the chemicals should be basically inert. Some solubility is
affected by the length a glaze is in suspension but usually that is minimal
in most glazes.

Let your glazes dry out, put a lid on them, and store
until you are ready to use. At that time, add water
to the consistency you like, mix thoroughly, and they'll
be fine.

For my glazes I have 5 gallon buckets that are used in restaurants for
pickles and other bulk items... Heavy duty buckets with lids in other words. I
have some glazes I mixed up back in 1990 that I had stored under a table in
these buckets as I changed my style and no longer had need of them.....
well an old customer broke a platter and called me begging me to make him a
new one and I was skeptical as there are ingredients in these old glazes
that you cant get any longer such as colemanite and ole gastly borate. I
told him I had some old buckets I could try and use and was kind of scared to
drag them out and see the rocks they must have become.... to my surprize
they were as wet as the day I put em under that table 14 yrs ago.. Even had to
take some water out !!! I talked to my teacher about older glazes
and he thinks some improve with age and they would be fine...

In other words if you got em in good buckets they should be fine for a yr
... your chemicals if you have them in jars with screw tops... should
be better than fine.. I live in south and HUMIDITY is HUGE factor in
everything ... I try and seal up things that are dry. If you live in desert you might
not need to think in those terms...

Your clay in bags If I was you I would find a pallet and use heavy duty
plastic on bottom and store your clay in cool damp place for me its my
garage under house and wrap that plastic tightly as possible to keep it from
drying out to much...

Clean tools that rust up good before storing would be good thing to do...
A yr isnt really long time so dont fret too much just use common sense
and your stuff will be fine... Just keep in mind your weather and the place
you have to store things. Let it guide you in how you store things...

Cat Jarosz In mnts of NC and it has stayed relatively dry for over a week
woooo hooo spin on head...mold mold go away come again some other
eon...please examine my head as we are seriously thinking of adding another lunatic to
the family a 10 month old airedale girl that is tooooooo exuberant so her
family wants her gone to a place she can RUN... LOL and we think our Curly
needs a brother or sister YIKES.... I will never be the same person
again... LOL heck I wonder if the doggy park will be able to handle 2 curly grrrlz
yikes my studio even...
