vitrified?

Carol, I contacted the guy that you get your micasious clay from and he
said that it is not a clay which vitrifies at low temp. Told him that I had
the intention of ordering up a coupla tons of whatever clay body he had that
would vitrify at low fire temps. Said I thought he had gone and invented
something that the rest of us did not know about......we both had a little
bit of a laugh.
If you know of any other clay body that someone is saying becomes
vitrifies at low fire temp, that isn't cost prohibitive and doesn't need to
be fired in lab conditions, please let me know and I'll check it out. I'd
love to get a source and start working on low fire glazes that will fit,
that are stable and durable. This will save time, money and burn less fossil
fuel. A combo that is desirable for me.
My whole point in this thread has been grown from the premise that it is
the best of worlds to use a vitrified clay body in conjunction with a glaze
that fits and is stable and durable. I just don;t know of a low fire
combination that fits this criteria. I'll bet our fearless leader mel san is
on the right track when he talked about a body that matures at cone3 with
glazes that fit being the next place to go.
Thankyou,
