Backstory: a few of us have been discussing Ababi off-list. I suggested to
this small group, and to Joyce, that I would like to start some sort of web
site in Ababi's honor, memory, or whatever you'd like to call it. It means
a lot to me personally, as Ababi was really an advocate and cheerleader in
my developing what is now my signature glaze. He gave me tips and tricks,
recipes, blend graphs, and tons of encouragement.
Our glaze addict friend Ababi was a major contributor to this list, and to
the clayworld as a whole. We all "knew" different sides of him - his love
of glazes, his life in Israel, his humor and support.
I will be starting up a web site to house his recipes, photos, ideas, words
of encouragement, etc. This project has the blessing of Mel, Joyce, and
most importantly, Ababi's wife Phyllis. I will take care of registering and
hosting the site, and will set up something basic to start. This is
envisioned as a long term project, not a short term, slap something up kind
of thing. I would like to thank Bacia, Maurice, Lili, Dorie and Joyce
(sorry if I've forgotten anyone) for all their encouragement and support and
the kick in the ass to start the ball rolling.
Any and all suggestions and help are welcome, both on list and off. I may
need help with maintenance, and I definitely see this as a group project for
all who want to participate. This is NOT a "Lois" project - it is an
educational project dedicated to and about Ababi. I had thanked him long
ago for his help and encouragement, and this, to me, is a celebration. It
will probably be a few weeks before I can get something up, which will allow
time for feedback, suggestions, and various summer vacations and workshops.
If you have a story to share, a glaze, a story about a glaze, please share.
I'll keep the list posted as things move along.
