oxyprobe..........

.......I supply one with my Doorless Fiber Kilns (see
http://www.ceramicsmonthly.org/mustreads/shinofire.asp and scroll down
to the kiln article). While the atmosphere readings are not supremely
important once one gets used to a firing pattern with their kiln, I
would argue that the reliability and accuracy of the included Platinum
thermocouple is worth the stiff price of the instrument. I have
identified at least four different firing strategies to achieve the
results I covet, and I would never have arrived at these without a
reliable and accurate thermocouple. The atmospheric control is at least
a bonus. In addition, a way to understand the cooling cycle after the
cones have fallen has been critical to my work with chosen glazes, and
this is work that others on Clayart have greatly benefited
from.......... thus useful beyond mere personal preference. The whole
understanding of soaking in oxidation came out of my work with the
OxyProbe, for instance. Anyway, I hope someone finds this post to be of
use.

Cheers, Hank in Eugene........enjoying the abundant Jostaberry and
Gooseberry harvests........Blueberries are next!
