I have heard the story that the name for the color of the pottery came from
the name of a character in a French play. The character wore green clothing
of a certain shade that approximated the color of some Chinese pottery that
had just lately come into Europe. So, originally, the name for the glaze
was entirely a matter of its color.

Possibly there is a revival of the play in which the character, still called
Celadon, wears yellow or brown clothing. We can now have our amber celadon
and our brown celadon.

Perhaps, following in the tradition of TV soap operas, there can be a
character transference to a different play, "Celadon and the Amazing
Technicolor Dream Coat," and we can have a celadon of any color we choose.

I will always think of that wonderful buttery texture with that particular
(well, a range) green color when I hear the word Celadon.
