gerstley and rutile

Is there a particular reaction that happens when gerstley borate and
rutile are combined that can cause blisters and/ or pinholes in a
reduction firing? I have found in at least two instances that when I
layer different glazes on together that if gerstley and rutile are in
one or both glazes that there will often be at least some glaze flaws,
regardless of the top temperature or length of firing cycle. I recall
reading an old post about floating blue and I believe someone said that
the combination of gerstley, iron and rutile is rather volatile. But it
was a long time ago and I don't recall all the details, and can not find
the post anymore. Anyone out there have some info to share on this?

Thanks,

Paul B
