Not also a show can be slow for sales , it can be physical abuse. I did
Summerfest in Atlanta at Virginia Highlands this last weekend. They now have a Fri
nite set up for $50 extra. We set up Friday nite and it was wonderfull. Was
easy to use my trailer and also for parking the trailer. Some minor issues with
tree limbs in the tent. All is well and we went home...

The had all the food venders on the same street with the artists. The food
venders were screaming the whole weekend about their sandwiches. It was in a
Carnival , with
a bunch of Carnies. It then got worse,, The music started.. It started with
blues ,, thats OK but way to loud.. It progressivly got worse,, They made us be
open till 8PM .. My last sale on Saturday was about 3PM.. The music was
screaming Angry White Boy music.. The radio station that did the music brought in a
mess for music. Also lots of beer for $5 a cup.. So all there was in the
CROWD was mostly beer drinking twentyone year olds.. Also did i say the music was
LOUD!!!!!...

I waited Sunday morning setting up and waiting for the music to start.. It
was lower in volume somewhat , but id had enough ,, i packed the pots for 2 hrs
and then we hauld all the stuff to the trailer and truck.. At least they were
close by.

I found out later from a phone call that the promoters had booked the last
music show from 6 to 8 PM ,, The show was supposed to end at 6PM.. They sent out
a piece of paper stateing that since the music was going to be longer than
the Art Show and the Police will not let the Artists move their vehicels on the
streets till the crowds leave , you can have ONE FREE beer while you wait..
Well , lucky me ,, i didnt get the free beer because i was already home ..
They did give us Artists a t-shirt,, Should I send half the t- shirt back to
them???

One of the Volunteers did ask why i was leaving ,, i told him i payed for a
Art Show not a Beer/Rock Concert.. He said i would have a hard time getting
back in the show , like i didnt already know that

I did meet some new friends and great potters and i bought a few pots and
sold lots of mugs to other potters..
BUT, all in all it was a waste of time..
I guess i need to read the FINE print on applications,, Beer/ Rock concert or
Art Show

Hello,

I too did that show and although I stayed, I had a lame show as well. The
atmosphere created around the music sucked. I think I should start selling
beer myself. What is going on with all the slow shows this year????

Hi Chris,

You ask, "What is going on with all the shows this year????"

My reply:

That they are a casual Barometer of the culture at-large...

I had to laugh when I read this and Mark's post on the show. It reminded
me of a show we did in Frankfort, KY years ago. It was a "seven" in
Sunshine Artists audit book. At the time Ann Arbor was also a "seven".
"attendance-100,000". They weren't lying. It was just that along with
the show there was a rock concert and a carnival. Those 100,000 people
walked from the rock concert, through the show, and over to the carnival
without stopping. We were told it went off "pretty good this year, last
year we had a knife fight and a guy died". So glad I switched to wholesale.
