Hi Gene,

Have you tried wax resist & a foam brush? The foam brush doesn't have bristles to get into the cracks and as long as you don't have too much wax in the brush drips shouldn't be a problem. I use only foam brushes for my waxing of foot rings. Once I tried foam I knew I'd never use a hair/fiber brush to wax again. I don't know if this will work for you but a small test cylinder isn't a whole lot to risk.
Good luck!

I have started experimenting with using sodium silicate on the exterior of pots to get the surface to crack over the entire outside. I have had good success getting the cracked exterior I'm looking for, good deep wide cracks.

Here's my problem. I'm trying to get stains down into the cracks and not on the high areas. I have mixed oxides and or stains with just water and brushed them onto the pot, gets into the cracks well but almost impossible to wipe off the outside. I have also tried using diluted glazes, same thing very difficult to wipe or wash off.

Maybe I'm using the wrong ratio of stains and water or maybe even the wrong mixture all together.

Would someone please revel the secret to me so I can quit wasting oxides and stains???

I looked in the archives and read all I could find on mason stains but didn't find anything that addressed this problem directly.
