sandcasting - how? (snail's mention...)

'Metal' I think...I assume...a Metal replicate of a
(presumeably) Clay Bas-Relief...


Sand seems so synonimous with 'casting' Metals, at least to
me...or, maybe, sometimes, with casting 'Sand Candles',
which seem to have pretty much receeded over the cultural
horizon now...(sigh)...


But...if (to cast) 'Clay'...I think the Sand would stick to
it...or, it to the Sand anyway...

Possibly, a method of obtaining a curious surface effect...

But then the Sand would likely sluff off...from the Clay...

(...was it 'Borges'? as wrote 'The Book of Sand'? I think I
remember reading it long ago...)
