Ok, folks. I thank you so much for your kind and helpful response to my
gallery woes. I realize I've been HAD.
To that end, I'd like to identify this gallery, so maybe I can save any
of you from similar fate.....(tho it's possible still that you may have
a better experience, esp if, as some mentioned ,you are wholesaling NOT
doing consignment - which is btw , %50 -with them)

Hi Sharon,

I'm sorry you had such a bad experience with that particular gallery. I'll
wager that everyone in the business has gotten treated shabbily by a
gallery or ten sometime in their career, and probably, vice versa.

The gallery you named was during my early years in the field considered the
best and most influential craft gallery in Ohio. Sylvia was considered to
be very strong-minded, but also had a good eye and was a very strong
supporter of many potters and other craftartists. I'm not sure who is
running it now, but I felt a certain pain seeing it named in this way.

Also, 50/50 consignment seems to be getting to be more the norm than the
exception. It's not necessarily a good thing, even if the consigner is
doing their best to sell your work, as it entails a fair bit of paperwork
over an extended period of time in order to keep your accounts with them
tidy. But, I will consign work with people who are close-by, who are
trying to do something good, something unique, and with friends'
galleries.

Once again, I'm sorry you've had such a bad experience. I didn't follow
all the details, but I'm sure they put you off plenty. When I see a
disclosure such as yours, though, it brings up the image of gallery owners
getting together at a show and telling each other of their bad experiences
with such-and-so craftsperson, just so the others can know not to deal with
him/her. It goes both ways.

Best wishes, and hope you find another good gallery in Cleveland who will
treat your work, and you, as it deserves.
