smoke, asthma and yahoo

For the past month or so I have sent posts to clayart that did not
appear in the yahoo archives, nor in the daily digests forwarded to my
mail2ohio acount from yahoogroups. I have, however, found those posts
later in the clayart archives, and they turn up in the digests I get
from ACERS at another address.

I also see posts referring to posts I have not seen, making me wonder
what else I am missing... and come to think of it, the volume of "I
agree with your post"/"you are an idiot" emails to me off list has been
down lately ;0) so I wonder if others are missing my posts as well.

Ah, well. My current email account is dating all posts arriving today as
January 12, 1976. The internet is like a funhouse full of upside down
stairways and distorted mirrors... you just shrug and carry on.

As for smoke.. I spent endless evenings in Taylor's Tavern in Oregon,
listening to blues and drinking beer with the smoke so thick you had to
feel around to find your chair; when I got home my smoky clothes,
dropped beside the bed, would offend the cat. Never mind the years of
undergrad, back when the cult heroes were "Cheech and Chong"...

So I suspect I had a hand in my own adult-onset asthma condition. (not
to mention insulation, sanding drywall, and silica.) And I have a hard
time pointing fingers in any sort of judgemental way at people who are
doing to themselves now what I did to myself back then.

Having said that, though, I am finding that a whiff of somebody's
tobacco smoke (more so, oddly, than campfire smoke) triggers instant
symptoms -- my lungs close like a fist, and I know I'll need to sleep
with the inhaler beside my bed later. It makes me angry at my body,
angry at this condition, and suddenly aware of how many people - from
kids to elders -- deal with this same PITA every day. I do not get angry
at smokers but it makes more sense to me now to have smoke-free
restaurants in my state...

OK. My 2 cents. Wish the keyboard had the little "cent" sign...
