Hello.=20
Wondering if any of you have mixed crushed gravel or stone with=20
your clay body for hand building?

Depending on the function of the item, like urns and vases, it might=20
lead to some interesting effects and textures.

Just an idea, don't know how that would fire, I would think it would
be ok though.

Hi John,

The stones, crushed as may be, may take a longer time to
release their bound moisture...as well as other problems of
their having disparate rates or degrees of shrikage when
cooling. Ot they may disintegrate into crumbs or weak
powders.

Or, my own naive anticipations are about the stones making
lots of problems anyway...too, it would depend on the kind
of stones they are, but arbitrary gravel or the like sounds
like trouble to me.

HI John

I have used "Chick Grit" Just make sure it is
Granite, and not Oyster Shell. You can find it a
feed stores.
Starter grit is the finest size and what I have
used. I have kneaded it into clay for throwing,
and have met with limited success. It may work
better for hand building, though.

Yes you can try but make a separation to other wares, perhaps kind of
saggar at least in the first time you do not know where the stones
will be in the end of the firing.
