Dear Clayarters

Lindy Rose and I are traveling from Australia to the UK and Ireland for
6 weeks from the 11th May and are asking you for some must see
Galleries and Studios.

We have some of our own must sees and visits and a few potters who we
have met on their Australian visits but as this is our first trip do
any of you have some recommendations?

Hi Leonard,
When in London, make a big effort to go see the Percival David Foundation of
Chinese Art located at 53 Gordon Square. This is about ten minutes walk
north from the British Museam, which needs no introduction whatsoever. The
Percival David collection of Chinese ceramics is fairly small but what
wonders it contains.
Be sure to put it on your long long list.
Bon voyage,
Carol

If you're going to be near Somerset, you might like Muchelney Pottery

Click on the 'Somerset Levels' button at the top of the page for a
zoomed-in map of the area, as well as nearby attractions. Burrow Hill
Cider Farm (and brandy distillery), and Brown & Forrest Smokehouse were
both very fun to visit.

Hello,

A few suggestions

1) Try the following for a list of studios
www.studiopottery.co.uk/html/reg.html

2) Cornwall. Not only is it a popular destination for all kinds of
toursist but has a long tradition of residency by artists, most famously
around St.Ives. And you could visit where the world class kaolins come
from! Have a look at http://www.wheal-martyn.com/

3) Stoke on Trent. Whilst not the most attractive of areas itself, though
it is very near the beautiful Derbyshire and North Wales, it is the home
of the UK ceramcis industry and so you could visit some of the industrial
factories. Also the city museum has one of the major collections of
cramics in the world. Visit their site at
http://www2002.stoke.gov.uk/museums/pmag/

Hope that's of help, and if you email me I should be able to supply some
further information.

Regards,

Andrew

When will you be there?

When in London, don't forget:

- The Victoria and Albert Museum
- The Craft Potter's Association Gallery (Marshal St.)
- Contemporary Applied Arts (Percy St, Tottenham Court Road Tube)
- The Crafts Council (Pendelton Road, Angel Tube)
- The Hart Gallery (Upper Road, Angel Tube)
- The Harlequin Gallery in Greenwich
- Gallery Besson (Royal Arcade?) Not open Saturdays
- Broadway Ceramics? (in Hackney)

You could spend a lot of time in London!
