glaze grit

I need help with this one. Yesterday I mixed up 5 test glazes of 1000 grams
each. All of them had EPK, Silica, Neph sy, 4 had lithium, 4 had zinc, all
had either lithium or zinc or both, plus oxides. When I went to sieve them
all 5 clumped up with a sharp white grit and much of the material would not
go through a 80 mesh sieve not matter how much I tried, the brush I used
became covered in grit that would not dissolve. It seemed the more I tried
to push it through the worse it became. What happened? Are some of the
ingredients bad? They have been around for awhile, but I have used them
before without this problem.
Any suggestions?
