feedback solicited for nceca mug exchange

Let's have a standing ovulation for David and the Mug-etts! Certainly the
best way to handle the mug exchange. I like the blind draw. Speeds up the
line. Yes, if you put in a mug or clay object, then you should be allowed to
participate in the exchange whether you are on ClayArt or not. Must receive
a ticket to ride.. to draw. My good friend, Michael, for the second year
put in a very, very nice wood fired, salt glazed bottle. He is not a
subscriber of ClayArt but was so excited to receive a beautiful mug from an
unknown ClayArt member. It works!
It was complete mayhem in the room for a few moments with everyone holding
their prizes high over their heads. Just a nice way of putting faces on the
work and meeting new friends.
And Maggie Towne of Louisville, I got your wonderful salt fired cup! It
holds an ample amount of Tequila....cheers!

I liked it, I was happy with it...

I think it makes sense for the participants to be present so
they may meet one-another, and or meet as well they whose
thing they get...and meet who got their thing too...and that
meeting one-another is
the Heart of the event.

And important too, is Ooooing and Ahhhing on what everyone
gets, or as may be, maybe saying as, "Well now...yup - now
THATS a 'baby' all right!"(...sigh...)

It is not 'just' about exchanging a 'mug' with some
stranger...or, it truely wishes to be rather more...and we
should make sure we let it.

And we should enter of some of our best efforts too, as many
looked to be...whatever our best efforts are, that's what
should go in, at whatever stage or noviate's asipre we are
at.

As it was, it was about right I guess...certainly, at least
for me !

How wuz for you?

I'm (foolishly) interested in any feedback people have about the new rules for the mug exchange we just did in the clayart room in Indy. All posts (well, actually I'll read those who are polite - amusing might be nice, could use some right now) will be read and then given all the consideration they are due .

Seriously though, I liked the new rules but I'd like input from others. The intent was to streamline the process, give everyone an equal draw and keep as many people in the room to met each other afterwards as possible.

Next year we really would like y'all to stick to mug per person and to be present at the exchange (or we suggest you participate in the stay at home exchange instead). The goal really is to make new friends and meet some of our less prolific writers face to face.

Please send your feedback to me personally and don't clog the list. I can summarize the comments in one post. My address is below.

I, personally liked the paper bag and orange tag method. I heard some
complaining about some students that got in on the exchange because they
were on the sme bus or van with a Clayart member. I think it should be
limited to Clayarters only.

Well, as someone who never saw her mug in someone's hand after the
exchange happened, and who still has no info after a query to the group
as to who got it, I wonder whether it went to one of the non clayart
people, and for me anyway it was disappointing to not know who got it.

It is disappointing. Last year I never heard from the person who got mine.
I was there in person for the exchange too. The room was mobbed so maybe it
wasn't a surprise they couldn't find me, but not even an email afterward. I
hope most Clayarter's are kind enough to contact the person whose mug they
got. I assume the worst, that they hated it (mine, not yours.).

I had originally hoped to be at NCECA on Friday evening for the mug exchange,
but things happened that made it necessary for Ron & I to leave on Friday
morning. Since it was my understanding that one must be there for the exchange,
I went to the ClayArt room & spoke to David about it & retrieved my mug &
brought it home. I felt that was the only fair thing to do. I was disappointed
not to participate, but maybe next time.
