Eating...... well, no, dining...... with the
UnflappableAndHumorous Jean Lehman
(who doesn't know that she's the JEAN LEHMAN
of Strictly Functional Pottery fame...... fame=20
and work,
lots of hard work)
in the Marriott's
fanciest restaurant..... windows facing on the
hall to the Clayart Room as part of our booth....
smoky windows designed only to give subdued
light and depth, not particularly for viewing....
clayarters whizzing to&fro were barely=20
discernible..... until we became aware that
periodically one...... or a group.... would
stand outside our window and press their
contorted faces against it, making=20
gestures, mouthing real messages or just
nonsense...... waving arms, crossing eyes.....
PrimalMommy, Lori, Marta and on and on.
Still wonder what the other diners thought
about these two rather Mature Ladies being
so entertained by highly animated folks of
varying ages...

Seeing Ihlene Mahler's growth as a maker of
crystal glazes ...... her pot for the exchange
was stunning .... it's only been a couple of
years (so it seems) since she sold all her
clay/glazes from past work and concentrated
solely on crystals....=20

Dannon's cone 6 electric pots which don't simply
"look like" reduction...... though they do...... but
are an entity unto themselves ..... and she's
only been oxidizing for three months (well,
firing oxidation; Dannon isn't really sitting
there in Indiana (is it?) oxidizing her own self....
though I have no doubt she could, if she were
to so choose....

Phil was talked into putting a Bison into the
Mug Exchange since he didn't have a mug.
I think it was Kurt Wild who suggested it.
THEN (one of many co-inkydinks of the
Clayart Room) Kurt, by luck of the draw, got
Phil's tool and..... wouldn't you know it......
Phil drew Kurt's wondrous mug!! Two happy
guys....

Typical story of NCECA... in vendors hall.....
met Sue Cline who was able to attend for
only a brief
time....... looking for Wayne...... I left hall.....
limped across skyway...... took forever....
ran into Wayne out of hundreds rushing
past me........ told him about Sue...... he ran to hall
and in a short time Found Sue who,
since she was a daytripper didn't have a big
nametag with Clayart Orange Dot .......
miraculous considering the crush of folks....
and time elapsed......
(they'd never seen one another; only had
a brief description from me who can't recall
many details of a claybud's Look once I talk
to them..... true, all I see is the Essence with
some vague memory of height, coloring etc)

Having the unexpected pleasure of meeting and
chatting with Bryann Johnson ..... I have two of
his incredible colored clay plates in my Clayart
collection ..... such a talent..... so modest.....

Observing the satisfaction on David H.'s face..
actually on his whole lanky, retro-fitted body....
when the Mug Exchange developed into exactly
the kind of intermingling of claybuds he'd hoped
would happen. We'd switched to a much
larger room and instead of having buds collect
pots and move on out to make room for those
coming in ..... David and Cheryl had
us stay in the Clayart Room and find the person
who made our "mug". Resulted in lots of
talking&laughing since while you were searching
for your "mug's" creator, another bud was
looking for you. Very warming ..... great
experience. Thanks, Cheryl and David!!

Warmest, happiest tale of all...... precious=20
Toni Smith's recent discovery of a sister she
never knew she had...... then the revelation of
a very large, accepting, loving Italian family.....
Toni had been an Only Child...... no longer.....
I encouraged her to tell a couple of other buds I
knew would want to know...... Toni adores
saying "My Sister" so she easily consented.....
I teared up severely every time.
