test kilns/clothes: fashion police, licorice, and red bandanas....

Test tiles........I shy away from little swatches of clay that are tested. I do, occassionaly test and consult, and I know I should spend more time with them. And, too, I know it is procedure -what is so called protocol for glazing (ie: the student requirements- then studio chemist). I have the utmost respect for the glaze gurus on this list that are married to glazes and are so welcoming with testing info- .(John, Roy, Alisa in Denmark, namely) ... But, an uncanny part of my personality rejects the regement of testing. After much mulling, study, naked dreams, and hoopala -I will slip, spray, pour, trail and let all the idealology surface. (I love using "the mystery glaze" and the drama that it , after the last piece, may never be achieved again. ) Then, I will have the oppportunity to address any failures......and in turn thank the glaze gods for many familiars and suprises that surfaced. What I gain from faults is the knowledge to proceed, with intuition still begging for
more. Intuitive glazing is as intellectual as it is mysterious........and then we talk about loose forms....

Mayor Mel, coat and tie is respectable........unless of course as Kelly states, it is caught in the clevage...........I'm still with saftey in black (or should I have said licorice?) anyway you wear it, and to be among the majority of the "artsy-crafty" gallery ......licorice and a redbandana will most certainly make a statement. But then again, we are to simply reqested at an opening to animate the intimate of "the piece".

test kilns and tiny tiles.
never found one yet that gave me the results that the
big kiln gives me.

and, i find them to be a waste of my time.

so, i glaze pots with new glazes...fire them right along
with the others.
how will you ever have the experience of finding `mother in law` blue?
an entire kiln full.
a dream come true.

and, i wear a coat and tie.
i don't want folks predicting that potters will always be in
jeans, jean skirts, boots and be dirty. and, of course a red bandana
around the neck. i wear that crap to make pots in, not meet friends.
