Dannon..Dannon...Dannon!!!!!!
I am shocked at your insensitivity to all of the
Clayart junkies who suffer extreme pain & duress
when Clayart is down for more than an hour.

Sure .... y'all be yucking it up at NCECA and we'll be our
sleepless, shivering, shaking, stuttering, slurring selves
slovenly scrounging saved postings.

Soooo saaad,

Mel
I have to tell you that I am moderately fond of Earthlink with their
spamblocker. It took a little while but probably 75 % of spam is blocked
now. To recieve mail, it is necessary to have addresses in the "address
list", but if you could figure out a way to have all suscribers added to
the address list, then you might be able to eliminate spam and viruses.
However, from viruses in years past, I do know that anyone who does not
have virus protection can send infected messages unknowingly. Is the
future of clay art list requiring that a virus detector be installed on
your computer? How would one be sure? This is becoming such a tricky
business!
I enter my messages through web mail, and can delete any . I have spent
some time with clayart list serve discovering usual contributors and
recognizing names. I deleted for a while until I realized that certain
names were connected to ceramic issues and not to penis growth or
attachments with viruses.
We get a lot of unsavory email because we have a web address. But I hope a
number of subscribers might be able to get some help from this advice.

website from my email address)

Mel, cleaning up the clayart list and getting a new
address sounds like a great idea. I don't know how
you STAND all that spam etc. I shudder to think of
the time it takes you just to delete, let alone read
everything to be forwarded to the list. And don't change your
mind re: leaving clayart stuff behind on your trip(s).
You need a break now and then, and you do yeoman
service for this list. Personally, I thank you. Have
a good trip, and just choose the time that is best for
YOU to make necessary changes. A week or so without
clayart isn't going to hurt anyone. Probably.......

Only 75%? I haven't received a SINGLE spam message since last August! I
would guess you are set up for "Medium Protection" rather than "Highest
Protection," and so are receiving what Earthlink calls "suspected spam"
messages.

With "Highest" I get a daily (or weekly--my choice) listing of suspected
spam messages--just author name and subject. Then I can go to the their
web site and read the content of any message that looks like it might be
legit, and if it is, release it to my inbox.

I understand you're talking to Mel here, but are you aware that you can
"enable" all messages from an entire domain? That way a single entry in
Earthlink's address book lets everything from lsv.ceramics.org get through.

Thanks for the information, Carl. I do have my spamblocker set on Medium
Protection because our website orders come through this email address. I
do not have our new customers in the address book, of course, so I have to
screen some of them.
In the past I have gone through web mail and looked through the spam
messages occasionally, but there are SO MANY of them.
It's just easier to do it in web mail.
I did know about adding domains to the address book, but had not thought
about it re: clayart. Thanks and I will do that now.

My ISP has installed a spamblocker with the name Brightmail after a
long evaluation. 14 days into the installation and it's having quite an
effect. My normal Inbox count was at least 150 per day, mostly obscene.
so I organised myself a POP3 letterbox and took to deleting spam on the
server before downloading. This morning I had 2!!! Clayart and a
listserv acknowledgement.
