val cushings #72 glaze?

I have tried it, and it was fine, but you should really mix it up in a 500g
batch and try it for yourself, in your kiln, on your claybody.

I used it for a while on standard #365 porcelain. Well behaved. More of a
pearly texture than waxy. Goes glossy when you add stains to it, and takes
color well.

As always, YMMV, so test test test.

colorants

Dear Gaye,
you can see the results of the tests I made coloring this base by searching
the archives, using the item no. above.
It is from April, 2003.

I used a local frit instead of G.B. in the tests, however, the results will
tell you how it resulted in my tests.

My frit tends to flux glazes more than 3134 or Gerstely Borate, so by using
G.B. you may get the surface you are looking for.

otherwise, other glazes that have this surface, that I tested and are also
in the archives, are:

CM White (CM March, 03)
Buttery Cream Satin Matte.
Chappel's Clear Semi Gloss

Hi Gaye,

It has enough alumina and silica but the ratio is over 10 (11.81) which
would indicate it should be a glossy glaze - but the description says a
satin matte. That makes me think it is not glossy because it is not
properly melted - which is a no no if you are looking for a stable glaze.

It may also mark from cutlery, not be easy to clean and sound bad with
spoons and knives.
