Joyce,

You saved me having to write this post. Thank you and I am sure Tom would
thank you too.

I would suggest to Chris, who is a patron to clay artists, to just ask Tom
himself. I say this frequently to anyone who asks for a glaze recipe. He
may just give it to you Chris as he is very generous with sharing his
knowledge. Or, he may encourage you to consider buying the books.

If you are in Minnesota next October 9th & 10th Tom will be coming to
Duluth or Minneapolis for a two day workshop. His books and pots will be
there. You can also order his books from his website:

http://www.tomandelainecoleman.com/

They are, so far, some of the best book of glazes I have found with respect
to requiring little or no changes to get them to work (as you know, the
claybody, water, firing, application, etc, all affect the result of a
glaze). I have had extremely good results on porcelain. Cheers everyone.
My feet are cold!

Thank you.

I think the Snow Capped Shino is in one of
Tom Coleman's books ....... probably in the
one that's out in the studio buried with others
I've piled up over this last year.

However, I wouldn't send it generally to the
list regardless. Tom makes his living from
clay, which includes his glaze books. They're
inexpensive enough and you definitely get
your money's worth since he also gives
hints about firing and sometimes tells what
has worked for him and what hasn't.

If a glaze has been published in a clay magazine
or the author has sent it to the list, or the
book is out of print ....then of
course those are different situations. But
when it's part of an ongoing sales promotion,
no, I would not send such a glaze recipe to
the list. Potters work too hard trying to make
a living; I don't want to contribute to undermining
their efforts.

Well, well, well. I did not think that this glaze was a Coleman glaze, but
as it turns out I was wrong. This is a Coleman glaze and if you would like
it buy the book, "The Glazes I Use." I have used several of his glazes the
past few years and as Tony mentioned, yes they are great. Almost no
modification is ever needed and the rusults are almost always perfect.

If you live in California you can come see Tom and Elaine at a workshop in
Ojai the first weekend in May. Better yet, come to Santa Barbara and see
their spectacular work at a show I am curating, which will run from
May13th-June25th. The show can also be viewed online at:
www.westmont.edu/ceramicsexhibition begining May 14th or so. The show will
have work by Otto Heino, Beatrice Wood, Tom and Elaine Coleman, Malcolm
Davis, Ron Meyers, Michael Simon, Jeff Oestreich, Kurt Weiser, and many
others!
