Hi Folks,

Anyone know what kinda life I can expect out of the standard Cress
Thermocouple without a protector in C10R.
Thanks.

I don't know what kind of thermocouple that Cress sold you. It is probably
either an S, R, or K.
These types of thermocouples vary a great deal in longevity. K types are the
worst, and without a protector tube their lives are even shorter.
An S type with a protector tube will last indefinitely.
I have a chart that was published by NASA that gives the data on K type
couples. It talks about the drift that you can expect at various temperatures.
If you have a FAX number that I can send this chart to you on, I would be
happy to share it with you.
Reduction will shorten your couples life too. That along with it being
unprotected will really shorten the lifespan.
The couple may not fail catastrophically in the near future, however it will
drift a full 25% in 200 hours of service.
If you want to discuss this further, write me off line.
