thermocouple placement

I have recently purchased a Fluke Digital Thermometer to use with my three
Jenken eletric kilns. I was curious as to where is the best place to mount
the thermocouple in the kiln. Should it be towards the top or closer to
the middle. Any inout would be appreciated.

The best place for the thermocouple is probably mid-way up the firing
chamber. It doesn't matter too much, though. The pyrometer is generally only
a guide. The true measure of heat work is still the witness cones on the
shelves.

A convenient place to mount the thermocouple is through a drilled peephole
plug. That way you won't have to drill a hole in the wall of the kiln.

If you do drill a hole in the kiln, it should be between two rows of
firebricks or in a row of blank firebricks so that the thermocouple is not
too close to a heating element.
