Hi,
I know of what you speak, Phil. My little 84 Pontiac will just not quit, but
shows it`s age. Am looking for the sticker`At least I`m paid for`.
Simona, I believe this is along the line of what Lilli was referring.
`Sad`..that many seem to try to fulfill what is lacking in their lives with
big, shiny, expensive stuff. I live one door over from a day-care. Parents
dressed to the nines pull up in their shiny SUV with cell-phone stuck in
their ear to pick up child. No time to even ask kid `how was your day?` cell
phone still stuck. Drive home to large house filled with more new expensive
stuff, but no one `lives` there.
I like beautiful things too. Our home is decorated with handmade carvings,
paintings, furniture. Professional work by ancestors, friends, relatives,
and ourselves. Imaginative recycling comes into play. And this is
satisfiying.
Everyone has their priorities and I believe, they should be taken stock of
occasionally. What I often see, and this is not referring to anyone in
particular, is rampant consumerism with no thought behind it. SUVs. jeeps,
gas guzzlers for no reason but to impress. Their biggest obsticle, the
little curb to the driveway.
Simona, if sales and marketing are the important part of working in clay,
what are we all doing? Important yes, people have to know the work is out
there if the goal is to sell the work, but I don`t believe it`s satisfying
to the soul. That is in the creating, the teaching. What is `sad` is that
many blindly believe the advertising.. that they will be `happy`after they
have bought the next `thing`.
I like money too. It buys me some security and the occasional air-line
ticket to exciting places. Money to afford visits to my relatives and
friends. Of course my priorities are not the same as others, nor should they
be. Mine will change in time also. We should all just think about `what are
we doing?` sometimes. What really satisfies? If it is going into debt over a
diamond bracelete, well.... are the kids well fed and clothed first..?
But after all that.... I sell to those who buy stuff.. doubtful if they go
into debt over it though.
Best Wishes, Lela
