I think the wheel stopping immediately is what Martha calls "a good
thing...", but if you feel you need to take it somewhere to be checked out,
try an electric motor company. I took mine once and they reset the brushes,
(whatever that is), good as new, and only down a day. :)

Dale, it "sounds" like bad motor bearings.
I replaced the motor bearings in my motor (Pacifica with the large
motor - the motor is probably identical to yours), and sent step-
by-step instructions to Clayart for the procedure.
See if you can find it in the archives. The title is 'The day the
crickets died'.
There is no reason to get Brent involved in this. They didn't make
the motor, just bought it and put it on the wheel. Your local
bearing supply house will have what you need.

Glad to know I am not the only one who is just now getting back to
work.

Having not thrown on my CXC since before Christmas and was all ready to go
today until I sat at the wheel and depressed the foot peddle. The motor
sounds terrible when it is running. And when I let off on the peddle the
wheel head stops immediately. I think the squeaky wheel needs some
grease......or the motor may be like me, some times stiff without daily
exercise. It is definitely the motor because I removed the belt and the
wheel head bearing is fine. Shouldn't the motor shaft turn freely by hand in
both directions? I have called to speak with some one at Brent Wheels but no
one is available to take my call. Still on holiday I guess. Left a message
not knowing when to expect a return call. The wheel had performed flawlessly
before the holidays and over the last 12 years of constant use. I don't want
to attempt anything until I obtain knowledgeable advise. So, any wheel
doctors care to diagnosis the problem? Hope a motor transplant is not
needed.
Thanks.

Hi Dale,

If you have run this Wheel for 12 years with no lubrication
of the Bearings, it is certainly possible a Bearing has
failed and become a source of added friction...

If the Wheel does not spin freely by hand, we may find that
to also be a strong indicator of it being time to renew the
Bearings...

Sealed Bearings will usually not last as long as you mention
anyway, and, often will not last as long as that, oweing to
how the factory grease begins to decompose from the start,
and, a 'new' Bearing as has sat on a shelf for a decade can
fail in a few days of use.

Bearings as may be lubricated may be understood to last
indefinately in applications like this, if they are attended
to now and then.
