Mel Jacobson Workshop=20
Monday, January 12, 2004; 1:00 pm - 5:00 pm
Fee: $35.00


In conjunction with the Washington Kiln Club, welcome well known =
functional potter Mel Jacobson as he presents a slide show and discusses =
trends and theories in modern ceramics. Mel will also discuss aspects of =
throwing, glazing, firing, and selling. Participants will have the =
opportunity to influence the direction and depth of the subjects. Dialogue =
is encouraged, so please come with questions. We will have a pot luck =
supper following the workshop in order to have the opportunity to continue =
our dialogue with him.
Mel spent a year as an apprentice to master potter, Kunio Uchida, in =
Kyoto, Japan. He has taught many workshops across the United States and =
has been featured in a number of ceramic publications including Ceramics =
Monthly, Pottery Making Illustrated, and Clay Times. He is responsible =
for building one of the finest high school ceramics program in the nation =
for the Minnesota Public School system and has been an adjunct professor =
of art for the University of Wisconsin for 16 years. He has been named =
one of the outstanding ceramic educators in America by New York University =
and Studio Potter magazine. Currently, Mel directs and moderates Clayart, =
an online discussion group made up of nearly 3,000 potters and clay folks =
from 89 countries around the world. He now creates functional stoneware =
pottery in his studio in Minnesota and directs the Hay Creek Studio camp =
at his farm in Wisconsin.
