kiln rewiring snag- (element problem)

Tracy, you can push the section of bulging element back into the groove. But
first, you have to heat the element. If you push it back in place while it
is cold, the element will break.

Probably the easiest way to heat the bulging element is with a propane
torch, which you can buy at a home improvement center. When the element
section turns red, squeeze the coils together slightly with needle-nose
pliers.

If the element has popped out from a corner, you will need to expand the
distance between the coils to make the element go back into the corner.
Snap-ring pliers, which you can get from an auto parts store, work well for
that.

A twisted element pin may hold better than a straight one. You can make
twisted pins from the ends of a new element that you cut off when you
installed the element. The element ends are made of two pieces of twisted
wire. Untwist the element pieces to use them as element pins.

I've put new elements in my old Skutt model 231- and fired it empty as per
the instructions that came with the elements. One of the little buggers
popped out and stretched out and , of course, will not fit in its little
groove - is it ruined?? Is there any way to recoil this section of the
element? I've called Skutt and Euclid and they are still on holiday. I
am having trouble with the little pins holding the elements, too - the brick
is old and seems to be too brittle in some spots to hold the pins- am i
beating a dead kiln??
