Karen,

While I appreciate your veiwpoint on the subject of using others glazes, I
do not feel that my veiw is silly or shortsighted. I merely stated that for
_me_ it was stealing, but I don't precisely mean stealing from the
originator of the glaze, I mean more stealing from myself. Perhaps cheating
would be a better word. I also did not mean others who use anothers glaze
are stealing I was only refering to myself, and my use of glazes on my
pots, hence for me.

Let me explain why I have this opinion. If you use anothers glaze, you are
most likely not getting your materials from the same provider which could
create variation in materials. You don't know for sure why that person used
the materials in that precise balance and if you modify, you will have to
do just as much work if not more to get the results you require from that
glaze. There is also stability and leaching tests to consider, etc, etc, ad
naseum.

On the other hand, if you learn to make and use your own glazes, they are
custom fit to your peices and you know _exactly_ why the materials are in
that particular balance.

You may have different requirements when you make your peices, but that
merely applies to yourself, and to say I am shortsighted is a bit strong in
my opinion. If you notice from my previous post, I am an obssesive planner,
and nothing I do is without copious amounts of resoning. Anal retentive?
Most deffinately, but I am neither silly nor short sighted .

For me it is less work and more productive to make my own glazes. I have
used others recipes, like this fall when I desperately needed an oxidation
green when the gas kiln died, but those were gifts not saleable items.
Again to be clear, I am only refering to my veiws of myself and my work, I
am making no value judgements on others here for we each need to find our
own way. What is good for the goose is not always good for the gander

You have valuable insights on your reasoning, but those resons are not
valid for myself or my ideas on my pieces.
