Lakeside Pottery - Morty Bachar on sat 27 dec 03

Sunday, March 14th 10 - 5:00PM

Join us in this ancient Japanese technique. The essential idea of Raku is
to start with biscuit-fired ware, which is glazed and fired to around cone
o6, removed with long tongs from the kiln when red-hot, and put straight
into a container of combustible material (sawdust, leaves, paper), to
create a strong reducing atmosphere. After about 15 minutes, the piece is
retrieved and quenched in cold water. Then the real magic happens -
scouring off the soot and burnt bits to reveal the serendipitous effects
of the flames. Intermediate or Advanced students. Lakeside Pottery, 543
Newfield Avenue, Stamford, CT 06905

Cost: $140
