We are just starting out and need some advice for shipping fees. It seems 6% is the standard, but that doesn't seem to cover it. What works for you?

Thanks in advance!

Charge whatever the shipping is for that package plus a little more. We
had two dollars per box. We do not charge a packing fee.

I charge "exact" shipping charges, using UPS ground service,
and find that percentages just don/t work...the same box that is shipping
2500 miles away is undoubtedly going to cost far more than that same box 100
miles away.
I do however charge 5% packing charge....the latter only on wholesale orders.
Some potters I know build it into their prices. I do not.

On regular retail orders, I do not charge a packaging fee, but do charge
exact UPS charges.

I figure these days when so many galleries are paying by charge (which costs
me 1.79% per transaction) and I am giving them 1/2 price with their minimum
order, I should not have to bear the costs of packaging. Retail prices, on the
other hand, is another story.

I just do the weighing/measuring/call UPS and add whatever it is to their
bill.

Best of luck!

Does anyone recall any (Japanese) films
in which tea ceremonies
figure in interesting ways?
Mizoguchi maybe?
Or likewise, any Arab tea rituals depicted (in films)?

Also articles that deal with tea ceremonies (in film)
would be helpful to see its process
as a lived event.

Thank you
...and happy holidays to all.

Hi Heather,

Do you mean 'handleing' fees?

...as, the Shipping fees proper would be a function of =
weight/size/diatance and not liable to enjoy any ratio of the price for =
which the item was sold...

Heather,

I pretty much add on the actual cost of shipping + $5 to cover =
materials--I spare no expense in packing well. I've had no problem with =
customers with this thus far.

Thank you.

Joan, you will get better response to your query if you use a subject line relevent TO the query. Shipping charges have nothing to do with the Tea ceremony, and thus your questions may be overlooked by those in the know on such things.

Free bubble wrap or foam sheeting is available at some kayak/canoe
outlets. The boats come carefully wrapped and the pieces are HUGE. My
local kayak dealers love to keep all that stuff out of the
landfill....Different companies use different materials so you will
need to find your favorite. There is a common materiaI that is foam
sheeting laminated to bubblewrap! It's too stiff to wrap most pots in
but makes a good layering material. I use an electric meat knife to cut
the stuff up.
