late night kiln loading

Hi all,

Last night I was starting to load my glaze kiln and it was about 10:30 and
I told myself this was ridiculous and I was too tired to see it through and
then the voice of Calvin said NO, GET A GRIP......

So afew minutes later I was adjusting a pot in the bottom of the kiln with
the next one in my left hand and to my astonishment I all of a sudden
noticed my hand wasn't holding anything and watched the vase that had been
there crash.....thankfully....on the other side of the bottom where nothing
was yet.

Now you would think that after these zillion years I would have already
broken a pot in every conceivable manner. NOT SO!!!!!!!
I cleaned up my mess, gingerly backed away from the kiln, turned off the
lights and went upstairs.

When will I learn to listen to myself?!?

Holiday best to y'all

Eleanora

Oh, SO been there!
Isn't it amazing how your mind can be in total denial about the state
of exhaustion happening in your body?

Tis time of year is treacherous...I remember running myself into the
ground one year in my 30's. I rested over the holidays and then tried
to get back to work in January: EVERY attempt at work resulted in
something broken. It took me about 3 weeks to get back to normal..

I think workaholics make good craftspeople. And we have this disconnect
when it comes to our own limits!

Jennifer, cleaning house before the invasion of adult children...

PS Who else HATES that TV advert about the people breaking stuff in
the ceramics factory? I have to turn the TV off when it comes on!!
