I have a fairly new L & L kiln with a dynatrol computerized control...
I always feel like I'm cheating by just pressing a few buttons
and abracadabra...BUT that's not why I'm writing...I'm doing
my first ever show/sale and of course I'm a wreck...I feel like everything
is not up to par, etc. My one worry is I do not have enough bowls so I threw
a bunch this past weekend and I know they won't be dry in time for a bisque
firing this week and the show is this weekend...can I do a programmed slow
dry cycle with damp greenware in my kiln?
Thanx in advance

I am a bartender and am having the sale in the bar where I work.
it has a beautiful back room all brick with nice old tables
where I will set up the pottery.

Nancy -
Yes, you can, and it works well. I am assuming that by now your bowls are
already leather hard. You can stack several of them foot to foot or rim to
rim, but do not stack them inside each other.

I do not have the instructions for our L&L programmable here at home with
me, and I might not remember exactly, so I will just give you the general
idea, and you can check your instruction manual. Just set the kiln for slow
bisque, but before you press "start," press "preheat" and enter the number
of hours you want for your overnight preheat. There are more steps than
that, but you will find the details in the manual.

Leave the lid lifted up 4" to 6" overnight to allow the moisture to escape,
and then close it shortly before the kiln is programmed to go no into the
slow-bisque cycle.
Good luck -

Nancy,

Yes it is possible to slow your kiln down and effectively dry your pieces. Just program a hold on a lower temperature, ie 180 for 5 hours, and then let the program run as usual. You should have no problems with breakage.

Another option is to put the pieces into a regular household oven overnight on a low temp 150-200 degrees.

Both options should work well if the pieces are not too wet and are well constructed.

Happy sales,
Darnie
