removing wax/wax resist?

updated tue 9 dec 03

Hi!

It seems that I read in a Clayart Digest, a few days ago, where some smart
chemist had found a sovent to remove wax/wax resist. I did not mark it at the
time, and cannot locate it again, in spite of multiple archive searches. Can
someone please point me in the right direction?

Many thanks, in advance,

Hi Paulette,

Likely about any petroleum based solvent would do...

Naphta, Benzine, Gasolene, Lacquer Thinner, Methyl Ethyl
Keytone, Paint Thinner, etc...

Try not to get any solvent on your skin, and remember to
enjoy good ventilations...

Why not just heat the piece up to 400 or 500 degrees in your kiln? I
wax resist raku pieces (to keep one glaze separate from another) all
the time. When I put the raku piece with wax resist into the preheated
kiln, the wax simply bursts into flame. Wait a few sconds and it is
all gone.
