when kiln elements die

is it usual for portions of the elements to go out, while other portions =
of the same element still work?

I suspected my poor old Evenheat kiln had an element go because my =
firing took so long to get up to top temperature last night. So I turned =
them on one at a time and looked at them. Sure enough, the 3rd element =
is totally dead (maybe a loose connection, or a switch?), and all the =
others have partial functionality.

Well, this kiln is over 20 years old and I have *never* replaced the =
elements before. Guess it's time for me to learn how now.

In that very slow firing I got lots of nice satins, some crystals where =
I didn't expect them, and some interesting color changes from the usual.

Marianne, I would suggest calling Evenheat: 989-856-2281. Since they have
your wiring diagram, they will be able to diagnose the problem quickly.
