kiln fiasco update

Well, I hesitated to cal the fire marshall, but someone else did. The kiln
has been shut down, but since the local fire marshal does not have
jurisdiction since it is a state school, the stae fire marshalls were
contacted and are due to inspect next Thursday. I leave for New Jersey this
Saturday so I will not know the results until January. But it does not look
good.

If they only inspect the gas kiln, then we may still have a program. But if
they inspect the entire building, well I will probably have to find a new
school, because even our Art Dept Head says the building will not pass fire
code. No sprinklers, no alarms, no saftey shutoff for gas kiln, wood rafter
construction...you get the point. I know continuing the program under
conditions deemed unsafe would not be worth the risk of life, but I am so
close to finishing as well as my wife and we have no money to move now and
then move again a year later for grad school, provided all of our credits
would transfer. So the situation is grim and everything is in limbo.

Hopefully their will be good news for Christmas.

On the bright side, my green glaze tests I got so much help on turned out
very well. I even got a gorgeous green that breaks to blue with a nice waxy
matte surface.

Hoping for a ray of light amidst the current gloom.
