a nice glaze accident

I was beginning to try to arrive at a crackle glaze for my wood firings,
and one group of tests started with a rewcipe posted here

spar 80 whit 10 silica 10

Of, course in a wood/salt firing where almost everything i use
crazes, this was perfectly smooth. very nice actually.
I had made a batch of Mel's Orange to try out- it rocks, by the way.

I had some colorant left over, and I thought if a white crackle is good,
an orange crackle would be even better. So I made a batch up with
Mel's Orange colorants and I got a totally non crackling glaze
that's really nice. A test pot is at

http://www.redhillpottery.com/orcrack.html

along with a couple of shino/mel's combinations.

all the best

John,

I've had nice results with this glaze in soda. It can be blue,
green, purple or red, with a sort of Van Briggle matt surfaces in soda.
Depends upon atmosphere and thickness. It didn't craze for me, but will
shine in salt. Don't put it on too thick.

What kind of feldspar did you use?

Hello John:

Yes, that's a nice warm glaze and it's on a very nice cup. Take the rest
of the day off. :>)
