April: How to survive getting ready for spring shows
May: Which Spring Shows are best to enter?
June: Flat top vs. Sprung arch vs. Caternary arch

Hi Lisa,

A suggestion for next year's calendar. You could designate the subject
of the month for Clayart discussions. November, for example, is
obviously Giffin Grip month. If I remember, Februrary is chapped hands
month and usually about August we all start picking fights with each
other. Oh, and January is 'down in the doldrums--how do I get my energy
back' month. I'm sure others have better memories than I and can
suggest subjects for all the other months.

Good idea John, just made me think of...
Oh please, oh please, just one or two months for French Butter dishes.

best regards from Alisa in Denmark (where butter is to Lurpak as a mouse is
to Mickey)
Looking forward to seeing the calendar.

Which month will cover how to build a jacuzzigama? :)

Definitely, French Butter dishes, and which is the month for Art vs. Craft?
And also the month for the Handmade debate - which equipment is OK to use
and still call it handmade, and which equipment you can't use and call it
handmade. There just aren't enough months in the year, we will have to
double up.

Here's my real question, raised because of recently being juried in our
local state craft guild chapter:

How much can someone else (spouse, employee, etc.) in a ceramist's studio
do, and have the work still be called the work of the ceramist? That isn't
well expressed, but for example, if a potter has someone sweep her floors,
obviously the pots are still her work, and could be entered in shows as her
work. If someone else mixes the glazes? If someone else applies the
handles, or does the trimming, or the glazing? We have heard from those in
Japan that the work of a master's studio may not have been touched by the
master, or maybe just decorated. Where do others draw the line?

In our case, my husband does all the throwing, and right now I glaze his
pots. The decision was made to jury both of us. It started me thinking
about the ins and outs of the question.

Make slides??? That's the easy part. I haven't even made many pots
recently. But I am looking forward to January's discussion. Hopefully
I'll get some good ideas.
