I just love the learning -- no doubt about it. This Memorial Vase project
has produced some pretty good vases; nothing better than sitting at the wheel
and concentrating on forms in 20 lot sessions, and NO TWO ALIKE. So I have some
good pieces.
Now the Glaze Quest has never stopped, just derailed a tad but well worth it.
I don't have the time to fill an entire kiln at school with test tiles
(still gotta come up with a better sounding word). What's a guy to do?
I know -- learn how to make a mold. Spare me the 'Sermon on the Molds' --
it's part of the process and I'm going to learn it. Boils down to this -- I've
looked at some molds made by others -- made me cry to see the beauty, the
skill and precision it takes to juggle all the materials.
To the Mold Makers on the list -- and I know there are more than two of you
-- you have my admiration and respect.

In Re:
Sculpture: 1) I sculpt a figure in wax (does not shrink and crack like
clay) by hand and tool, 2) I cut the figure into moldable pieces. 3) I
mold each piece.(in this case 52 mold sections) 4) I cast each mold, 5)
I assemble the cast pieces - 13 in all - into one figure

I plan to make molds for doll parts and press clay into them (for
ceramic and mixed media sculptures.) How do you make your molds that
you mold from your wax figures? Is there somewhere you can direct me,
please?
Thank you,
Rhonda Gushee
