Using a blow torch inside is OK however you must only use propane and NOT
map gas. Map gas is referred to as a hotter flame, which is true, and it
normally comes in a yellow cylinder as opposed to the red propane cylinder.
There are all kinds of warnings about what map gas will do to you indoors if
you inhale the fumes.

Good point Bruce! I have never heard of map gas -- have only used
propane blow torches and they work quite well for firming up a pot wall
that is starting to sag during throwing. I have saved a few pots that
way that otherwise would have collapsed and I believe the propane
blowtorches are safe to use indoors (when used according to instructions
of course), since everyone in my local studio seems to use them,
including the instructors. Not to mention the fact that they are just
plain fun -- I guess they appeal to the pyro in me -- must be why I
like raku so much too, though most of what I do is functional ware.
