I know this may be a silly subject but maybe we all need some sillies in our
list right now after all the hard feelings that have circulated lately...
Talk to me on how hard it is to unfocus from one thing and go on to another cause
it is super hard to do but maybe we do need to NOW. It all seems soo
pointless to be dissin one another with all this passion being wasted on WHAT???

=46ashion sense?! I missed that one! I'd be interested to know what
other potters wear in the studio. I usually wear the same jeans every
day (why get a new pair dirty?), a high compression sports bra, and a
t shirt. What does Jonathan Kirkendal wear? I certainly want to be
in with the in-crowd on this one!
wooo hooo Does anyone turn their t shirts around with the dirty side in
back and the cleaner side in front ? I have done this plenty in the past and on
occassion still do it now but I realize its much healthier to splurge and
wear a new tee as I have a wealth of TEE'S though dont get around to the
laundry as often as I'd like.... My jeans heh heh well we wont go there
sufice to say conserving the laundry basket pile is high on my list of things to
do... Hair up in a scrunchie on top of head or preferably those hair clips if
I can find one my dog hasnt eatten. OLD SNEAKERS and sometimes used socks
but fresh under-roo's which when working on difficult things its wise to wear
your lucky ones . and in the old days before lasik surgery I wore clay
spattered glasses
ps got no respect at the local grocery store deli as in couldnt
get those women to acknowledge my presence without hollaring YOOOOOOO
wuzzzzzzz up ???? when dressed as a potter and this is the red neck ingles
grocery store at that LOL lotta farmers out my way .. and one homeless guy
asked if I was a guy or gal once outside this same grocery store.. ps all
that use to crack me up as when I would go shopping at this same store cleaned
up the same women would rush to wait on me at the deli and no one confused
my sex... I still dont get that one...

Wrist watches have to be the kind with expanding bands so you can push it
up your arm and its full of clay and the glass front is scratchy and when you
finally shift it back in wrist postition you have those big gouges in your
arm... NO rings and NO fingernails...

Other cute things to wear are the respirator during sanding, mixing ,
pugging, airbrushing or clean ups and they leave a nice ring around your face
.... very high fashion statement that is.. Goggles for grinding or other
chores that things go flying around... I dont do raku but I know they have some
really awesome gloves and protective gear that makes them a fashion hit...
and some neat gear we get to wear when we fire to look at cones...

I always say I may not be pretty sight as a potter but I sure clean up
good... ps I like potter fashions myself even if I do look like a homeless
sexless person..

Happy daylight savings to all, battling leaves here in
NC mnts , night mares of leaves, leaves leaves leaves and soo many still up in
trees... Oaks from Heck.. getting choked from leaves ... clogging up
everything they are everywhere LEAVES that ate the studio and homestead leaves...
in the gutters in everything... never ending leave source here on the
ridge ... Cat Jarosz new fashion statement Leaves in head....I got plenty to
share ....I actually could outfit everyone on this list with enough leaves to
jump in... and yes the new puppy loves leaves fun to jump into...

Woohoo Indeed! Not exactly a fashion maven, I prefer:
A pair of cutoffs that last held all the seams together during Nixon's
administration. I no longer have the body to get away with a Speedo :>( The
cruddiest t-shirt i can find, when the mosquitoes are too hungry, other wise
no shirt. An apron, when I remember to put it on. No shoes either...I like
the feeling of the clay gooshing between my toes.
(Who made that comment about throwing with one's feet?) Likewise no jewelry,
rings or watches. An old Jack Daniels bandana so the sweat doesn't drip into
the clay.
Makes it easier to jump right into the pool when the weather is hot. (I
think my pool guy hates me by now, but not enough _not_ to take my check :>)

Some girlfriends and I got into firing an Anagama a few years ago. Talk
about nasty dirty after a shift at the kiln! :o) Sweat and soot and dirt
all mixed together. Bathing never felt so good.

We had a little chant that we would do when the shift was over....

I'm always barefoot if possible, and in my studio (the parlor at the front of the house) and in the rest of the house, for that matter, shoes are DEFINITELY not required. Unfortunately, the rest of my studio wear is whatever I happen to have on when I come in from the "real job" and sit down at the wheel. I usually manage to remove the really expensive clothes that have to go to the dry cleaners when they get dirty, and I try to remember to put on an apron, but really, I figure, it's only clay, it will wash out. I go to the grocery, the hardware store, everywhere, in whatever I'm wearing and I don't really worry too much about it. The neighbors might think I'm a bit strange with clay splatters across my front but they already think I'm strange for putting the studio in the parlor and for the wall I built in the backyard.

Smashed up all my old pots and cemented them to the foundation of the house in the back, which has turned into an amazingly beautiful thing. Some of those pots were so thick it took several blows of the sledge hammer, but the wall is incredible. Handles and spouts and bowls sticking out all over the place, surrounded by my bad pots and those of all my potting friends. We had a blast putting it together, no plan, no forethought, just whatever we wanted. Put it all in place with white mortar so I feel like I'm living in the tropics, instead of here in rapidly cooling New England.

I admit to wearing the same pair of jean several days in a row, as
there is no point washing 'em if I'm only gonna get 'em clayed up
again.

And a note about the laundry - I got through towels like nobody's
business. I tend to take my clay covered towels to the commercial
laundromat (as opposed to washing them at home) to spare my plumbing.
I must drop off 15 lbs of towels every two weeks. One day I will
weigh them after they're clean just to see how crudded up they were.

>Hair up in a scrunchie on top of head or preferably those hair clips if

I haven't had a short haircut in a while because it is so much more
comfy to work in pigtails. But I think I might be getting a short 'do
next week.......!!! =20

>OLD SNEAKERS and sometimes used socks

I hate socks. Even in January. If I MUST wear them, I will wear them
with my Tevas. Sneakers I wear sockless.

>but fresh under-roo's which when working on difficult things its wise to=
wear

My mother told me that too, in case of a car accident. Or a clay
accident, as the case may be.

>and in the old days before lasik surgery I wore clay

I know it's off topic, but I'd love to hear more about people's
adventures in Lasik. I'm considering getting it this winter, after
wearing glasses since 1st grade (I'm 45). I have had contacts since
high school, but am tired of not being able to see well, and have no
night vision whatsoever. Anyone interested in telling me about their
Lasik adventures can do it off-list, if you prefer.

>ps got no respect at the local grocery store deli =20

Actually, I do. I don't change before going from the studio to home
(about a mile walk) and I get MORE respect, because people think I'm a
working artist instead of a stay-at-home mom. I consider myself both,
but I think people find the artist thing more interesting. =20

People who see me in my potter drag have not even recognized me in my
woman drag - complete with makeup.

Me too - and I feel sexier as a potter. Or is that what is known as a
"sex pot"?

Gap and Old Navy have great overalls. Long in winter; short in
summer. What I want to know is: did you buy a lacy push up bra to go
with those Victorias Secret overalls?! ;-)

I wasn't going to participate in this but since Lois brought up being sexy
in the studio...where I used to live it was very hot, no reason to have
jeans at all. Had a lot of old T-shirts though. Decided to get myself some
short over-alls to go with the old T-shirts to wear to the studio. Well, we
had to order things like that from catalogs and I had an awful time finding
a suitable pair. Most of the time they were too cutesy and too short. You
won't believe where I finally found the perfect ones....Victoria's Secret
(and they were the best price)! They were just the right length. So I
ordered the most unsexy thing in their catalog. Wore that pair out and
ordered two more. Now that I am in a climate with 4 seasons, I think I
might like to wear long overalls in the winter. However, I can actually go
to a store this time.

Dolita-just another sex pot....
