intriguing egyptian offers...

Did everyone receive that post Re: "suppling (sic) with red iron
oxide, talc and kaolin" from Egypt? Wasn't it interesting? I
wonder what the ceramic suppliers and clay manufacturer's will do
with it (if anything)? Here in the UK we are seeing the closure
of digging operations in traditional clay producing areas like
Cornwall for various reasons, so I expect new sources and
resources are of great interest to companies like Potclays and
Valentines, even if large scale ceramic manufacture is being
out-sourced to other countries...

I wonder if anyone has any experience of using Egyptian clay? I
mean here in Clay Town! As for the other stuff "on offer"... I
had to look up Albite! Sounds like an ideal name for a company
producing dentures, doesn't it? Albite = a soda felspar Na2O,
Al2O3, 6SiO2 Hummmm... That is no great shakes, is it? Must be a
pretty orthodox ingredient? Nothing to get excited about? Oh
well...

Albite, ALLbite, allBITE... Ways to remember the word... And
before anyone asks why this new-found interest in things totally
technical... HIMSELF has suddenly started taking an interest in
the Making of Pots! This could well lead to other things... So
now I need to brush up on so much long-forgotten stuff, so I can
answer any questions he springs upon me! Never a dull moment, is
there? I hope this means I get more clay related books at
Christmas and fewer on paper-making, garden design and the
likes...? Mind you, I am loving WALL by Andy Goldworthy. What an
artist!

Sincerely

Janet Kaiser - who better get off to bed... Hard day tomorrow,
even if we "won" an hour with the clocks going back
today/yesterday. But I lost a couple of hours sleep last night...
Hot water bottle sprang a leak! Brought back memories from a very
long time ago.... Early childhood...! :o)
