Dear Ben Ashfield,

An interesting process. My suggestion would be to use Stand Oil which =
you would get from any good art supplier who catered for the printing =
people. This tends to be viscous and does not spread or bleed on bisque =
clay. Commercial stains can be mulled into it easily and it can be =
thinned with Spirits of Turpentine. You may need to add a resin for =
On-Glaze work.=20

One of the best texts for recipes of all sorts is Conrad, "Contemporary =
Ceramic Techniques". He gives two printing varnishes on page 171 giving =
his source as Hegemann.

Best regards,

Ivor Lewis. Redhill, South Australia
