Now that we are in the 4th quarter of 2003 I'd like to mention that there
is
a very nice article describing how the US tax deduction for teachers (and
related occupations) who personally pay for supplies at:
http://www.accountantsworld.com/news/currnewsyb.aspx?q1=42419143

This article includes information which teachers are eligible to claim up
to
$250 of expenses related to teaching paid by the teacher and not
reimbursed.
It also reminds us that this deduction is valid only for 2002 and 2003 tax
returns. You must have been employed at least 900 hours in elementary
school or secondary school, in either a public and private school. The 900
hours refers to the academic year.

I don't know how long the article will be available, so if you are a
teacher, you might want to open and save it now.

It's always a good idea to save your receipts, in case you are audited.
