horsehair!

I WISH I could remember who the WONDERFUL person was who sent me the
horsehair -- a total stranger with great capacity to encourage potters!

My class had our first Raku firing today. Since my test piece (a small
shallow bowl) didn't have to go into the can, we pulled it last and set it on a
warmed insulating brick. The first few hairs left wonderful smoke fumes but burned
off completely. Then I laid several more on one at a time. The class wanted
me to do several at a time, so I did -- not an attractive result, but it was
all about experimenting.

I had put white terra sig on the piece, and used a manually-powered sprayer
to spray more on it in spots that had been tinted with RIO. That was very
effective, giving just a blush of color where it hit.

I also blew some granulated sugar on it... a little goes a long way with that.

This test tile had a lot done to it! But we could all see the potential, and
I bet by the time the class is over, I'll be sharing the horsehair that was
shared with me.

Thank you!
