"JUMP TO THE POOL of glazing"

"Anything you can glaze I can glaze better" Said Poe Lian Chi, a well
known Armenian potter.
You can say thank you for your advises. I shall go on with the
commercial glaze.
I say, I hope I gave you tools to improve the use of the purchased
glaze.
We can go on developing that glaze by adding silica or alumina clay or
frit but we do not know what to we add and if the supplier will change
the glaze or find a lower cost supply we will not be able to rebuild the
glaze we have adopted.

I will deal mainly with ^6 glazes because I hardly do lower.
The one or two low fires I will write about are ones I have used.
I am not going to take the gurus place, just give you some tools to
understand how it works.
The best way is to buy and use software but I understand that not
everyone has time or energy to do it.
There is an on line program:
http://www.sonic.net/~wang/InterGlaze.html limited the American
materials.
Do not forget to see Gary Wang's beautiful wares, but let's go on.
I will add this time an easy to make yet more expensive glaze. I shall
use it along the other ones

I found it in the clayart archives at the CeramicsWeb I think was sent
by a potter named Joyce lee.
Please note when you move from one software to another you might have a
slight change in the analysis.
This glaze is a little yellowish it is my second liner glaze (The first
and the main from R&J) I use it when I want the yellowish feeling. Ron
offered me to reduce the EPK to 20 and add feldspar. I think he is right
but I am satisfied with his Gloss Liner for most cases. I keep it now
the way it is for it's simplicity.

So, what it is all about?
There are limit tables, mainly to help you judge the quality of the
glaze.
I will add some limit graph I use in Matrix.

The limits are not policemen, they guide you in your way, when you
choose to "disobey" you understand when and why!
The slides are at
http://members4.clubphoto.com/ababi306910/1623358/ Matrix and R&J
limits.

In the next page explains Tony Hansen the limit formulas:
http://www.digitalfire.ab.ca/cermat/education/206.php

You may lain on your gurus (Val Cushing has limits in his book too)
You can build your own, for special purpose. How to build your own I
shall try to explain in the next letter.

In his site,
http://www.matrix2000.co.nz/

Lawrence Ewing, the developer of Matrix2000 has a wonderful and friendly
course in basic glaze technology.
http://www.matrix2000.co.nz/GlazeTeach/Index.htm

You can learn yourself without any strict teacher watching your steps
and mistakes.

My way of writing is the way of the person that started to learn after
he finish to study.

I had to overcome "rules" sometimes incorrect rules.

In a way, I will have to use the same attitude of my teacher& adviser
have used presuming that the reader do not know to use a software, but I
shall do it from another place. Where I stand I know the reasons and can
predict the results as well as the causes!
