submitting digital images (was re: kodak discontinues slide projectors)

updated fri 19 sep 03

Janet Kaiser on thu 18 sep 03

Speaking as a gallerist, I accept both, however I am never amused
by receiving submissions by e-mail where attachments have to be
opened one at a time. This includes mail which was sent in
HTML-rich format by the way... Like many others these days, I do
not open such mail.

I always request zipped packages where the images have a
*meaningful name* and are small in size/resolution. I do not
appreciate sitting here waiting for unsolicited mail of a zillion
bytes to download whilst my phone bill rockets, when I can always
request such files at a later date if it is necessary.

"Meaningful name" being for the benefit of the recipient/viewer
(me) and not the originator/sender. Surprising how many people
send "image1", "image2", "rakupot3", etc. without their name or
at least their initials included at the start (so their images
remain together in the file/folder they are downloaded to for
viewing). The worst names are probably meaningful in the artist's
own catalogue, but mean nothing to me when in a "review
submissions" folder!

Sincerely

Janet Kaiser
